hi

i have one esxi 5.5 running on vmware workstation 11 .

at the first boot of the esxi everything goes smooth . i add iscsi adapter to add a san storage on anothe vm running free nas (on work station  11).

i build couple of machine on the esxi and everything fine.

the problem began after shutting down the esxi and restarting it  ..

at first i wasn't able to connect to the esxi at all from vsphere , only from ssh .   it gave error 503 .

even threw http , i couldn't get to the esxi home page.

it solved only by reset completely the esxi from the esxi menu .

after i log on again from vsphere , i noticed that i cant add iscsi storage adapter and every time i try to it just disconnect the session and receive again error 503  . .

for now i cant get my storage back..

any suggestions >?  ?

MTRRs error on installing esxi5.5 within virtualbox

Hi Guys,

I encountered an MTRRs error while I was trying to install esxi 5.5 within a VirtualBox (ver 4.3.20) which runs on CentOS 6.6.

The vbox settings are:
        Type: Linux
        Version: Linux 2.6/3.x (64bit)
        RAM: 4096MB
        CPU: 2core

The iso was bootable, but hanged with purple screen and mentioned about: No variable MTTRs: assuming ESX is running in a VM.

How can I get rid of the problem? Thank you!

Invalid configuration for device 3

Hi all,

I have set up a nested lab with three esxi hosts and two datastores connected with Microsoft iscsi target server. I know nested vm's are not supported but I am trying to set up this lab because I am supporting a real VMware environment and I would like to be able to test certain things before I break anything so it is important. I get this error when trying to create a VM "invalid configuration for device 3".  Anyone know how I can find out where the problem is?

Thanks

Goals:

1. User Home router DHCP for my computer and mobile devices.

2. Use VM DHCP for nested VM lab.

I can't figure our why DHCP and DNS is not working on my VM. I think I am messing up my IP address class.

Management VM is IP 192.168.1.86 (home AT&T DHCP router)

DHCP is active with 192.168.100.0 to 192.168.100.24

DC VM inside management VM is IP 192.168.100.10

attached is a screen shot.   please help

Nested ESXi6 and VMware Tools for Nested ESXi

$

I've made an environment in vCloud Director using nested ESXi 5.5, but after upgrading the VMs to ESXi6 (RC) the VMware Tools for Nested ESXi are gone. This leads to loads of problems, because vCloud Director finds the VMs to be in an inconsistent state. This kills networking and makes the VMs basically useless. Manually re-installing the vib doesn't work (I've tried maintenance mode and lowering the Host Image Profile Acceptance level) - it will skip the vib.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to get the VM to be functional again?

Marcel

How to get ISO images to nested VM's on Virtual ESXi?

$

Hi, This is my first post so please be gentle

I currently have 1 physical host (HP Microserver) connected to my home network.

On that host i have 2 x server 2008 VM's (DC & VCenter), 1 x Win7 VM and 2 x ESXi5 VM's. I have created a VM on one of the virtual ESXi5 hosts but cannot seem to find a way to get the ISO images to the VM i have created on the virtual ESXi host.

My VM's are all on an isolated network and my main datastore on the physical host is where the ISO images currently reside so i can still build new VM's on the physical host if i want.

How can i map to the ISO's from the new VM which has it's datastore nested into the virtual ESXi host's datastore. I have tried attaching the ISO image to the virtual host and configuring the VM to use the host CD drive but this does not work.

Please help. Happy to provide any information to assist in this.

Thanks in advance.

Nested VM Question

Hi All,

I am trying to setup my LAB for some testing purpose.

I have created a VM with 8 Gb RAM and 4 vCPU(On a Cisco UCS Blade) and installed WinXP on it.. In Windows, I have installed Workstation and trying to install ESXi on VM in workstation.

So its like Physical host >> Main VM >> Workstation >> VM(esx i).

I am getting some CPU VT error.. I want to know if this type of setup is even possible before going for troubleshooting.

Appreciate any help on this.

Regards,

VD

"This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host does not support Intel VT-x"

Hi, I have installed vmware 5.5 hypervisor on hp G8 microserver. I have created one vm as windows 2008 R2. I have also install vmware workstation 11 on this vm. In this workstation when I tried to run vmware 5.5 hypervisor I come across "This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.  This host does not support Intel VT-x" this statement. Which shows that the host machine does not support virtualization and for that you need to go in Bios and enable it but in present case as host machine is also a vm and you would not find much detail of Bios when you log into the Bios therefore, I am pretty much stuck here. I don't see any information in relation to this. Now my question is:

1. Can we run ESXi inside a vm which is already sitting on ESXi?

ESXi inside Esxi: Unable to connect to the MKS: Could not connect to pipe \\.\pipe\vmware-authdpipe within retry period

Hello Gents,

hopefully you could provide me with some helpful information or somebody might has resolved the issue already I have with my Nested Virtual LAB Environment.

LAB Environment:

1x physical Esxi 5.5 Host with PUBLIC IP address

1xVCSA with PUBLIC IP address and PRIVATE IP address.

2x Nested Esxi 5.5 Hosts both connected to vSS switch on PRIVATE LAN (promiscuous, Forged Transmits enabled )

1x Nested Gold VM running on Nested ESXi Hosts

1xSilver VM connected to Private LAN

The issue is that I am unable to open MKS to Nested GOLD VM neither from within the Silver VM connected to private LAN from vcenter via vSphere WEB Client or from within the PUBLIC LAN from vcenter via vSphere WEB Client.

I always receive above error message: Unable to connect to the MKS: Could not connect to pipe \\.\pipe\vmware-authdpipe within retry period

Any advice will be welcomed!!!!

Thanks
